I think, it’s really true and realistic, that the Tajikistan Republic is a very mountainous country, with the highest mountains not only in these areas, but almost in the whole world…Of course, it is true, that Pamir Mountains which occupy the eastern part of the Republic are almost the highest mountains in the world with the highest peaks in the Tajikistan Republic, such as Ismail Somoni Peak (7 495 m), Ibn Sin Peak (7 135 m) and Korzhenevskaya Peak with 7095 m, the fourth highest mountain in Tajikistan is Independence Peak or other name – Revolution Peak with a height of just below 7 000 m, its height is about six thousand and nine hundred forty metres or 6 940 m; this is also one of the highest mountains in Tajikistan and in the whole Central Asia Area. Well, this will not be something new for you, but, of course, this mountain or Independence Peak also is situated in the Pamir Mountains, in the west-central part of Tajikistan, maybe just some hundred kilometres to the south from the Kyrgyzstan border. These areas, I mean, of course, places in Tajikistan, but situated very near to Kyrgyzstan borders, are such mountainous area which, to my mind, also can be the highest places on Earth where altitude above sea level is about seven thousand meters and even higher… There is one year which was also very important to this country and especially to some, maybe, geographic communities, some scientist communities – 2006 when this peak was renamed as Independence Peak; previously this peak had other name – Revolution Peak. So, maybe from the west-central part of Tajikistan one can see other landscapes and places of this country, and it may be just as well the southern part of Gorno-Badakshan Autonomous Province, and especially places near Afghanistan border. So, there is one place in Ishkoshim district, well, that place is famous thanks to the fifth highest mountain in the Tajikistan Republic, and it is Karl Marx Peak which is about six thousand twenty three metres above sea level or 6723 m high. So, Karl Marx Peak is located in and officially belongs to the Pamir Mountains, but it will be very important to say that its actual location is in Karakoram Range, a mountain area belonging to the Pamir Mountains and situated in the south-western part of the Tajikistan Republic, a few kilometres west from Ishkoshim district, in the South, near Afghanistan borders. This Peak is not as high as for higher mountains, such as Ismail Somani Peak, Ibn Sina Peak, Korzhenevskaya Peak and Independence Peak all of which are situated in the Pamir Mountains, but only in the west-central part of northern part of Tajikistan, so near to border with the Kyrgyzstan Republic. This means that Karl Marx Peak (6723 m high) is as an exception, and is located near the Afghanistan border, just a few kilometres from Ishkoshim district to the West. So, the Karakoram mountains area, to which Karl Marx Peak belongs, is situated in the south-west part of the Pamir Mountains and the Tajikistan Republic.
