Does Literature Still Matter

Overall avocational degrees prepare you for life, including an extensive range of possible careers. Humanities goes into underlying causes of why we do what we do as nations and individuals as well as the basic structures of being. How we express ourselves is the very basis of how we live our lives. Literature studies might be the only subject that has an intrinsic value in aiding us to a heuristic type of learning where we learn from fictional characters. It teaches us how to live, we can read years of knowledge and life lessons acquired in a single book. Since it helps students to identify a main theme, subtext or metaphor it helps us to become better readers, not just for literature but also reading texts we encounter every day in our lives. Perhaps reading informational texts, for example, about recent world events or magazines on certain topics will make you as a reader look for cause and effect or even questioning the validity of such text could make a wider progress on society. …
