Lord of the Flies In this novel, Ralph appears to the reader as the symbol of civilization and order. As the novel progresses, Ralph manages to adhere to his original connection to civilization. Unlike Ralph, the other boys quickly adapt from their societal values to the island's natural ways of survival of the fittest.
