The most natural way to try and treat acidic water areas is to encourage biologic productivity with phosphate fertilizer. Also limestone or lime (a naturally-occurring basic compound) can be added to acidic lakes to "cancel out" the acidity. This process, called liming, has been used extensively in Norway and Sweden but is not used very often in the United States.
Acid rain can be prevented by decreasing use of energy. Walking, turning the lights out when you leave the room and use electric device only when you need to. Don't heat your house warmer than what you need it to be and buy cars with low emissions.
