The brain is not a computer chip; the brain is not a television cable; the brain is not the music on the radio. The abilities which the brain is capable of doing is so much more than these materialistic items; one’s brain has the capability to be innovative. On the other hand, some argue, “this change is as much a cause for hope as for dismay...crucial parts of character formation take place at the level of neural rewiring where we have no direct, conscious control” (Neulieb). Technology is evolutionarily changing the brain. How much change can the brain handle? No one knows for sure. Some even believe this overstretching of the brain is leaving too much free space for distraction (Neulieb). All in all, these facts support the inevitable truth: technology is harmful to one’s being.
Technology is a necessity in everyday life, but not in the mass quantities being used for social interactions. On the surface, the idea of connecting with people worldwide is a wonderful tool, but when this idea engulfs one’s entire being, becomes part of every thought, and changes outlooks on life, then technology is no longer “wonderful”. The overabundant use of social media, and technology as a whole, has become the downfall of this generation.
