Concluding Thoughts
I am an Episcopalian by faith. I believe the bible is the gospel. The scripture's teachings clearly do not tolerate same-sex unions, yet it is something the archbishop is clearly tolerating and by doing that he is himself in error. I agree with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), my former religion, in its issue of an advisory statement in 1993, saying that bishops, "do not approve of such a ceremony as an official rite, because they see no basis for it in Scripture or church tradition" (Heinen, 2003). Officially, the ELCA and the Episcopal Church welcome gay and lesbian members, and its ministers can be openly gay or lesbian if they are celibate (Heinen, 2003).
The only thing that I agree with of the outcome of the convention is that its leaders of the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee affirmed an essential Anglican principle: The people of a diocese choose its leader (Heinen, 2003). I am not upset with a choice of lifestyle one chooses, however, if it is a matter of faith and belief the ministers should held to a higher standard to uphold the faith and belief by being the role models.
