The Great Gatsby is a story with many aspects that are symbolic of deeper meanings. From the colors Fitzgerald associates with different objects to geographical locations, symbolism can be seen throughout The Great Gatsby.
The most obvious of the symbolic colors in the story is the color green. It comes to the mind right away when Nick Carraway, the narrator, says that, "[Gatsby] stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and far as I was from him I could have sworn he was trembling.
