Typologies of Non Democratic Regimes. Grey Areas Between Democracy and Non Democracy

The case of hybrid regimes shows that such regimes can create important risks, and one of these risks is that hybrid regimes tend to be particularly unstable. Deeper understanding of the problems of hybrid regimes is desirable because it will help to analyze and evaluate fragile democracies. In the end, I would argue that the number and type of non-democratic states have changed considerably since Linz’s first edition of “Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes”(1964), and new schools of thoughts may emerge. Moreover, the study of regime hybridity will still remain one of core focuses of contemporary political research.
