Who Is the Greatest Australian and why?

Steve Waugh has demonstrated all of these characteristics. He has been named Australian Cricket Captain since 1999. He has been quoted as saying "to be a good Australian was looking after your mates, taking care of your family and being able to have a laugh at yourself". He has donated money to charities and set-up charity orphanages. He has been a leader, patriotic and true sportsman and would be in most cases an Australian household name.
From this discussion it is obvious, in my opinion, that the greatest Australian is Steve Waugh and this has been confirmed and recognized by Australia as he was named Australian of the Year 2004.
