After a long and intense labor, the gardeners-writers need to taste the fruits of their work. It is the scariest stage of all processes of writing. It starts with feedback. The first critic of their work is themselves, but they must learn the acceptance of failure and resilience. Rowling insists that rewriting is a vital part of writing. Even if you have planned everything down to the smallest detail, there is a low probability to achieve perfection on first draft. She herself re-wrote chapter one of Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone fifteen times. Once, one of her posts on her Twitter account was: “You have to resign yourself to wasting lots of trees before you write anything really good. That’s just how it is. It’s like learning an instrument. You’ve got to be prepared for hitting wrong notes occasionally, or quite a lot.” As all learners in our solar system, writers need to make mistakes, a lot in fact, to learn and achieve the pulchritude of art. Benjamin Hardy paid 1,000 $ once a month to Holiday for reviewing of already written material and for a one-hour long consultation. Despite the quality of material, he always ripped his draft in shreds and told: “You can write so much better than this.” I think, Holiday wanted to teach him to embrace his own inside critic and never lower his standards of work.
