Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Was it Justified?

The United States dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan on August 1945. They claimed that it was to end World War II without risking the death of hundreds of thousands American lives during a planned invasion of the Japanese mainland. The President at the time, Harry Truman had other reasons in mind when dropping the bombs like, to justify the tremendous cost of testing and researching the bombs, to intimidate and impress the U.S.S.R., and to get even with the Japanese for bombing Pearl Harbor.
