THE STORY OF FLUORIDATION
When an American graduate of dentistry decided to start a dental practice in Colorado Springs in 1901 he was amazed to see all of the natives had a grotesque, brown staining to their teeth. These stains were sometimes so severe that the whole tooth was the colour of chocolate. The graduate (Dr. McKay) researched into this, but his findings came up blank on the bizarre disorder. The residents were not very helpful and put it down to too much pork or consuming inferior milk. Dr McKay reported his findings to some local practitioners, but they were unhelpful. Dr McKay named the disorder the Colorado Brown Stain. Dr McKay's first big breakthrough came in 1909 when a collaborate went to Colorado Springs to help Dr McKay. When 90% of born children showed signs of the disease it was published in the Dental Literature Magazine. This drew more attention to the disease and there was an investigation held. …
