In Harper Lee's novel Scout tends to always defend herself when someone is insulting her or her family with her fists and fighting. Throughout the novel Atticus tries to break her of this habit and attempts to teach her that there are other ways to solve a disagreement rather then fighting. "You might hear some ugly talk about it at school. But do one thing for me if you will: you just hold your head high and keep those fists down.
